Goodness gracious, how exactly did it all lead up to this? Narukami had received such an invitation to this manor out of the blue, remembering the ominous words inside and… the statement that followed it. They would release… WHAT?! The outside world simply couldn’t hear about it, it’d be more than just a simple embarrassment to Yu, it would force his reputation to be risked because of something that just so happened to occur. No, it wasn’t exactly a simple occurrence, at least that’s what Yu kept telling himself. As long as it was okay in his mind, it was okay to others. He had brought himself up believing that his truth was the absolute truth, the ‘be all, end all’. His inspiration? Himself. The reason he’s out here? Himself. Yu was still trying to formulate some sort of plan as the taxi pulled up to the manor, with the driver having to remind him that yes, they had come to their destination in this more than secluded location. Not even a ‘thank you’ was said to the driver as Narukami stepped out onto the woodland floor, taking the time to crack his neck and straighten out his jacket. “First things first…” he spoke to himself, feeling a breeze shoot past his collar. Yu inspected the first jacket pocket… it was still there, what he referred to as his charm. A symbol that was engraved with the name and picture of the God of Creation, Izanagi. His family was religious, and instead of believing in what they wanted to push down onto Yu, he instead searched for some sort of figure up above. Whilst his beliefs were in himself, Narukami felt that Izanagi, the deity, was somehow within him. Starting a brisk walk towards the front entrance, he took a moment to analyse the front. From looks alone, the location didn’t suit it. Thinking back to when he received the invitation, multiple thoughts flooded through his mind to try and somehow link two factors together. Affording to write a name in golden ink and now the well-kept state of this apparently abandoned manor, that simply screamed to Yu’s mind that whoever was responsible in leading him out here… they had to be in a huge position of power! Imagine being able to afford to organise such an event?! Others would call it a huge logic leap, Yu called it common sense. It was his sole intention to solve the truth of this manor, and he was confident that he was alone in such an investigation. With his hands buried within his jacket pockets, Yu edged closer and closer to the entrance and slowly placed a hand against the front door. Again, Yu told himself that he could sense other presences in the area. He closed his eyes, listening out for the voices that spoke to him… … … … Nothing, as he thought. It was the perfect time to survey the first scene, using both hands to push the door wide open, keeping his head down as per usual. Surprise welcomed him inside, to which there were already others gathered in the front entrance. He didn’t exactly feel obliged to introduce himself to these people, whoever they were? Yu was more concerned with the fact that his judgement was wrong, how the hell could others be here?! He couldn’t be wrong. Fortune just hated him for the day. words: 568tagged

Hey, this sort of atmosphere wasn’t exactly up Yu’s street. There was another reason that he had chosen to come to this specific concert, mainly because a certain somebody was set to perform on the big stage. Yes, hassling his parents to be allowed out of the city to attend this was a struggle, however, in the end it all worked out and Yu forked out more cash than he needed to in order to make sure this event was one to remember. His first outing ever since that fateful year in Inaba… oh, how time flew past for the Fool. It’d be another familiar sight to see Dojima drive him out to the music venue, already flocking with hundreds, if not, thousands of fans. It surprised him to an extent… he knew she was this popular, just not… this popular. The trip wasn’t that long, at least, that’s what Dojima said as Yu sat in the passenger seat, looking through the window. His uncle smiled to him, pulling up to the rear entrance of the venue and into the already stacked parking lot. There was just one promise he had to make to Dojima before his uncle left, of course, there was nothing that Yu wouldn’t do for his family out in the countryside. “Hey… could you remember to get something for Nanako…?”“Without a doubt. Have a safe ride back, alright? Tell her I said hello too.”Yu responded to the inquiry almost spontaneously. It was true that an outing like this with Nanako could have been a great way to spend his weekend, alas, other factors meant that these plans would be put on hold for the time being. He remembered to take the pass he had purchased from his pocket, looking onwards towards the heavy security at the rear entrance. Yeah, this was definitely one of those events. Yu strode over, pass around his neck, effortlessly showing it off to the first security guard. It was as smooth as can be. No words needed to be exchanged. People told him he had that effect on anyone, whether it was a passive effect or something he meant to do… either way, Yu had a way with words and his own body language. Unfortunately, this whole train of thought made Yu nearly collide with the door that hadn’t even been opened for him yet. A rookie mistake. Nevertheless, he made it through and watched as people of all kinds rushed past various corridors. He didn’t even know when, where or who to start with. A figure then stood out to him down the hallway… it had to be, right? Well, surprise or not, Yu had to make some sort of move now before the show started. He realised that there was only one way to find out, trying to simply walk past various stagehands and others with the same pass as him. Yu wasn’t one for shoving or pushing others, and found a short linear walk forward provided more of a challenge than he thought. Eventually, he saw her leaning against a wall. The hairstyle and outfit stood out amongst everyone else. “Hey! It’s nice to see you again!”words: 514tagged

There was just a single second involved. It gave way from one world to another, clearly, at least that’s what Yu was sensing. What was initially a walk through Inaba, a flicker of his eyes changed the environment around him. It was more than just a little, ‘odd’ per-say. He didn’t say anything, not even to himself in his own head. The truth of the matter was that he could sense more than just a new environment, because there was (that) too. Resonating within Yu, he could feel something else, the bond that had never split since he discovered the world on the other side of any television. Therefore, it drove the young man to believe that this was indeed the TV world, because… where else could they be? Where else could give way to this power? His glasses… maybe… … there was no need. After all, there no was no sign of fog. Not anything like the deep cascade that he had to push through on previous occasions. Yu wasn’t in possession of anything except the very clothes on his body, however, he couldn’t stand around and simply watch as the quiet chaotic nature slowly began to close in on his own mind. There was a sense of urgency telling him that he had to move. “… !”Yu’s senses were alerted once more. Movement. It wasn’t much to go and his feet were slowly backing away, one step per second and beat of his heart. Before anything could jump out, the Fool found himself backed up against some sort of wall. Observation, he learned, was key when it came to figuring out an unknown force like this one. Many times, could he remember being that key figure to lead the Investigation Team, scouting and ambushing targets within the other dimension. His suspicions were right as it appeared, it spawned upwards, and it quickly vanished quicker than he could blink. “The shadows… they’re here…”It was all that he could mutter out. His eyes peered up towards the sky. A mix that resembled twisted hope. A world he never knew could come to fruition. Yu kept trailing across the side of the wall, edging further and further away from the same road he had been walking, and the same road that had transformed before his eyes in a flicker of what he reminisced as blue light. His thought process currently resembled a puzzle. Different combinations of what could happen, or even what he could make happen, or… Bang.Well, shite. Yu had heard his fair share of gunshots not only whilst living in Inaba, but in and around the world on the other side of the TV. This one took him by surprise though. It had to mean that somebody was here with him. His instincts were pointing him in the same direction as his heart. It always told him to pursue that truth. Maybe, just maybe, that one word went through his system more than it needed to. Maybe, the word defined him. Bang.He didn’t deter away from moving across the wall from another shot. It just motivated him to keep going. Yu broke out into a slight jog, the corners of his jacket swaying from side to side as he once again found himself pressured up against the surface of the wall. He had learned to be prepared for anything, even the worst-case scenarios were playing through his head. Bang. Were they getting louder? Yes. In the general direction he was already heading in, Yu could hear the bullets clearer. There were three choices. Did he pursue the noise? Stay put? Or simply, look for another way around this bizarre creation? He darted around once more, discovering that this world indeed shared similar properties with the one he was more adjusted to, discovering a collapsed scaffolding structure attached to the edge of the same wall he had been manoeuvring across. “… it’s unconventional, really…”He said to himself, watching as his right hand tossed up a damaged metal pipe from the scrap of the structure. Yu was more used to something along the lines of a sword, not necessarily a pipe like he was some sort of thug. In the end, a weapon was a weapon in this new land roaming with shadows. Bang. And the gunshots were only getting closer as he took off to wherever they were coming from. words: 735tagged

They told him the case was impossible. They’d never find the killer in this small and peaceful town. For Yu Narukami, finding the disturbing truth behind the murders in Inaba was one of the reasons he matured into the person he is now. As much as it pained him to see his friends, and more importantly, those who were family to him, go through physical and mental torture from edging closer and closer to the truth, it was his group that finally grasped that truth. Yu was back in Inaba for a short period. It was one of the only chances he’d get to visit this place throughout the year, because life in the city was just as busy as he remembered it to be. That’s why this walk was happening. Remembering those times. His hands in his pockets, hair brushed neatly out of his eyes, and a light grey jacket zipped up all the way, Yu took step after step whilst looking around at the various buildings and scenery that accompanied this small town. There was one destination he wanted to visit first though, the place where he made those first bonds and social links. Then, he stopped for a moment. “Huh… look at that…”Ah, yes, the night sky. Back when he was first sent to Inaba, he wouldn’t of even been allowed out at this time by Dojima. And well, it had been quite some time since then. Nanako always told Yu that sometimes, the stars in the sky would make a shape. Or, that they were simply pretty to look at. A smile came to his face, because yeah… it was nice, really nice. Nanako definitely taught him to appreciate the small things in life. Yu continued to walk across the pathway, his eyes set on a destination in the distance that was just starting to come into view. Even through the night, it stood out to him. He knew this route, hell, he walked it for an entire year with such people like Yosuke, Chie and Yukiko. Finally, he walked towards the front gates of this building, obviously, they were closed at such a time. The front was still all recognisable to him. Yasogami High School. His whole second year of high school was spent here. How could he not remember being called the ‘city slacker’ by Mr. Morooka on his first day? Somehow, thinking back to that brought another smile to his face, and even a chuckle. Yu scratched the back of his head and looked over to just besides the gates, visualising a scene from the past where both he and his friends would meet up on occasion after school was over. The exams! Yosuke was always one to try and drive Yu over to the ‘dark side’, which actually only meant to ‘wing’ it as his friends would always tell him. The results were never good though, and sometimes, Yu did feel bad for Yosuke when his name was near the bottom of the list on the day of results. Where would his own name be? It was a rocky start for Yu, but often, he’d put in the work at home, often because Dojima always expected quality out of him, and then the results would come in. The rooftop was a good place to think back to. Although, there was no way he could fully see it at this time, Yu certainly pictured it in his head. Having the whole Investigation Team up on the rooftop was always a good time, no matter if they were arguing or simply having a laugh with one another. Again, Yu looked up into the night sky, and up towards the stars. He decided to move on to another area, another place that made him remember the memories leading up to that final truth. It was important to remember those times, remember the small things. words: 650tagged

As a franchise, Persona is an emotionally significant game for so many. What does this character mean to you? In terms of Persona itself, it was actually P5 that led me into playing P4, P3 and falling in love with the franchise. Yu stood out for me in both the game and even the anime adaptation, simply because of how much of an absolute 'lad' he was presented as. He's always there for his friends and isn't afraid to joke around with them. Everyone seems to love him, and his attitude to the world around him shows that. All of the protagonists mean a lot to me in terms of relating with the issues they have to go through, and with Yu, it was about fitting in from the big city into this small town and making long lasting bonds with the people there. The fact that the truth in itself means so much to him, and that the player could potentially throw that all away to become exactly like the main villian of Persona 4 was mind blowing to me at the time.
More than why do you want to write as them, but why are they special to you? Writing as Yu appeals to me a lot, but he's quite special in terms of how... normal he was presented as, yet by the end of the game, he's surpassed those norms and become a hero among his friends and the town. I love Minato/Makoto and Ren/Akira, however Yu really stands out as a protagonist among them. His bonds with characters like Yosuke and Rise in particular are amazing and really show him to be a great friend and partner to those in the Investigation Team.
If there was something you could change about your character in-game, What would it be and why? Not much. If I had to change something though, it would be to show off more of his relationship with Adachi and Dojima. Persona 4 Golden and even the anime expanded on this, especially involving Nanako (which may I add, his bond with Nanako is the sweetest thing in the world) and how they all come to know one another. If there were more bonding scenes that showed off Dojima to be a role model to Yu, and Adachi to be an actual friend to Yu, it'd make for a bigger impact near the end of the game in my opinion.

It was different, a lot different, back here in Inaba as opposed to the big city he was used to living in for the majority of his childhood. Yu Narukami never knew that such a small town and a year with his uncle would result in him growing as a person, whilst making brand new and everlasting bonds with those who populated the town itself. Yu sat up from the futon he had been laying down on, looking up towards the television set on the desk that reminded him of that first day, the day he discovered the existance of another world on the other side of the TV. There was no point in dwelling over those times though. The best moments of his life mixed in with the overlooming threat of a murderer terrorising the town, hiding behind the fog at every point until the truth was finally discovered. Yu thought to himself every day if events could have turned out differently...
... this was no time to think about that though. He had came back for a reason, and that was to enjoy the company of his friends, those had helped him solve mystery after mystery through his previous stay.
Yu didn't hear anybody else awake in the house once he stood up, outstretching both arms and letting out a slight groan. Again, the television set brushed past his view as the boy made his way over towards the door. He pushed the handle down and slowly opened the door, taking the first step outside and then making his way down the staircase. Once more, Yu didn't see anybody in the kitchen or the adjacent living room. He was still in his loungewear, that of a light grey jumper and similar coloured pants. Making sure not to go bare-footed, Yu slid on a pair of slippers whilst he made his way towards the kitchen, opening up the fridge and attempting to prepare himself breakfast. After all, there was no better way he would be starting the day off.
*BUZZ* *BUZZ*
"Ah... this early in the morning...?" he said to himself, not bothering to take anything out of the fridge and instead close the door shut. "I suppose I couldn't stay here for long without some company... haha..."
Yu Narukami and his group of friends had become closer than ever thanks to the resolution of the investigation that sent Inaba into a slow descent of peril. They had been the saviours to this town, and truly, Yu couldn't be more proud of their work. The corners of his lips extended out into a slight smile.
*BUZZ* *BUZZ*
"Alright, alright... haha. I'll be right there!"
Inaba's hero couldn't keep them waiting any longer, even if it was this early in the morning. He didn't create these bonds just to forget about them when he returned.
